Searching for Wong & Yee Roots:
A Road Trip to Montana and Calgary
Eugene Moy will narrate a PowerPoint presentation documenting his summer 2016 road trip to search for evidence of his paternal grandfather's business activities in Montana, and to connect with his maternal Yee family in Calgary. Along the way, he and spouse Susan visited historical museums and libraries, historic Chinatown and Chinese cemetery sites in Virginia City, Winnemucca, Lovelock, and Tuscarora, NV, and stopped at sites in Fort MacLeod and Lethbridge, Alberta.
Eugene will share some of the resource materials he found. Another purpose of the trip was to photograph roadside Chinese restaurant signs, and of course to sample from many Chinese and other restaurants along the way. Come and enjoy hearing the stories from this educational and fun tour!
Eugene has been involved with public history and historic preservation for many years. He has served on the boards of the Chinese Historical Society of Southern California (CHSSC), the Friends of CAM, the Los Angeles Lodge of CACA, the Historical Society of Long Beach, and other organizations.
Refreshments will be served. Volunteers for bringing refreshments are most welcomed and appreciated. If you would like to help out, please email firstname.lastname@example.org
