Membership FAQs

When does my membership expire?
Annual Memberships will be for 12 months from the month your payment was processed.  Renewal notices will be sent out the month before your membership expires to avoid any lapse in membership.
Can I get both a DVD and online Research Guide?
If you become a paid CFHGSC Gold Member you can request one copy of the new 3rd Edition Research Guide on DVD as well as have access to the on-line version of the Research Guide for the duration of your 12 month membership.  The on-line version has the advantage of being updated while the DVD will be static for the next few years.
If I purchase the online version of the Research Guide, will I be able to access it from any device? (I use my phone, desktop computer, and laptop, depending on where I am and who is hogging the other computer, lol).
By selecting the CFHGSC Archive tab from our home page  www.chinesefamilyhistory.org from any device with Internet access you will be taken to the Gold Member login.  From there you will be able to access both the Research Guide and the past recorded events as benefits.
What is the money used for?
While CFHGSC is a volunteer organization, we do incur expenses. Expenses incurred, but not limited to, upgrading the CFHGSC’s web page, adding a Customer Relationship Management program, Zoom Webinar expenses, website hosting, speaker honoraria, insurance, licensing/permits, supplies, etc.
May I still attend meetings even though I'm not a member?
You do not have to become a member to attend meetings and webinars as they will continue to be free to the public. However, by becoming a Silver Member, you will receive the benefit of on-line access to selected past meetings and webinars for review and reference. With a Gold Membership, in addition, you will also have access to the new 3rd edition Guide for Researching Your Chinese Family History.  Go to chinesefamilyhistory.org/become-a-member for details.
Are my membership dues tax-deductible?
The Chinese Family History Group of Southern California is a Section 501(c)3 nonprofit and your donation/membership may qualify as a charitable deduction for federal income tax purposes.  Please consult with your tax advisor or the IRS to determine whether your contribution is deductible.
If my spouse and I join, can we get a "couple discount?"
At this time, the CFHGSC is not offering “Family” or other combined memberships.
I am having trouble logging in.  My password doesn't work, why? Originally i was not a member, but now I am.
As a Member you should have received an email entitled “Welcome New Member” from CFHGSC at the email you used to register.  This would allow you to get into your on-line Membership Benefits like selected past recorded meeting videos.

If you didn’t receive that email simply go to the website  programs.chinesefamilyhistory.org and follow the instructions to create a password. You will need to click on the blue Reset password initially.

Again, make sure to use the email address that you used to register.  Check your spam if you do not get a Reset Your Password Link. If you are still having problems, use the form on that page to let us know what you have done and if you include your phone number, we will reach out to help you.
