Michael Ho showed how he was able to confirm his family branch when it wasn't confirmed in the printed jiapu that he received from his ancestral village and how he made connections with other Owyangs with roots from the same village.
Steve, former Chair of CFHGSC, is passionate about genealogy and sharing his knowledge of the Chinese American experience. Combining his interests, he volunteers for the Angel Island Immigration Station Foundation by transcribing interviews of Island detainees and recording their experiences for the Angel Island Immigrant Voices initiative. In 2003, he retired from Xerox.
Michael, current CFHGSC chair, is a 4th-generation Chinese American who has spent over 25 years researching his family roots. His ancestors immigrated from Zhongshan to Hawaii. Michael has made numerous trips to his ancestral villages in China, and assists other family history researchers to interpret both English and Chinese records.
